Book Review – Hannah the Hedgehog by Lori A. Moore

Hannah the Hedgehog Goes to Heaven and Lily Loses Her Best Friend

The loss of a pet is often be a child’s first real experience with death. It’s hard to know how to cope and as a parent, it can be hard to know what to say or how to explain what’s going on to a child. Lori A. Moore’s new book Hannah the Hedgehog Goes to Heaven/Lilly Loses her Best Friend is designed to help. This is a beautiful little book that is full of color as it describes the friendship between a little girl and her pet Hedgehog. When Hannah the Hedgehog gets sick and eventually dies, the little girl Lilly is trying to understand what is happening and why.

For me, my very favorite part of this book is the fact that it is two books in one. It’s a flip book, so on the one side, the story is told from the perspective of Lilly as she watches her pet get sick and eventually die, then learn how to cope with her sadness and move on. The other side of the book tells the same story from Hannah the Hedgehog’s perspective, showing how she understands her situation and how much she cares for Lilly. The book is simple and easy to understand for any age child and there is a simple message of love and hope and life after death. This book is a great tool to help parents teach their children how to handle this difficult situation.

This book actually comes out tomorrow on March 20, so be sure to check it out as it’s a great one! Thanks Lori for the opportunity to read through the book!
