The Message – #8

Fear the Lord. This is a phrase that can be difficult for some people. We’re looking at Isaiah chapter 8, focusing on verse 13.

“It is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard as holy. And He shall be your fear, And He shall be your dread.
Isaiah 8:13 NASB

Here’s the issue. God is holy. He is righteous and if we truly understood how holy he is and how broken and sinful we are in comparison, we would be terrified. Yet, we get “scared” of so many other things that don’t even compare. We are afraid of what our friends will think if us. We are afraid of not having all the possessions that we want. We fear losing power or authority or position. We fear death. We have so many fears.

However, once we get our perspective right and understand the position that God holds, we won’t be afraid of anything else but falling short of God’s expectations for our lives or not having God in our lives. Every other fear pales in comparison to the fear of not following God and not having Christ to intercede on our behalf. This amazing God who is so holy wants to have a relationship with us and made a way to do that through Jesus Christ. Who are we not to give Him our everything?
