The plan. Joseph has a plan. He wants to see what his brothers have learned since they sold him into slavery. They were jealous of him for being the favorite son, and now he wants to know whether they will treat Benjamin the same way they treated him. He has already spent this dinner favoring Benjamin. Now he needs to set up a chance for them to either sacrifice Benjamin or save him. Read Genesis 44:1-6.

Put my cup, the silver cup, in the mouth of the sack of the youngest, and his money for the grain.” And he did as Joseph had told him.
Genesis 44:2 NASB

Joseph asks his servant to set up Benjamin. He goes and puts Joseph’s cup in Benjamin’s sack. This will then result in an upcoming opportunity to see how they will respond to Benjamin being favored.

How do we respond when we have experienced a bad result to our actions? Do we learn from those actions? Anytime that we sin, God will always give us another opportunity to try again. We will have to show Him that we meant it when we said that we don’t want to sin again in the same way.

When we repent, God will help us to overcome the next time we are confronted with the same sin, but make no mistake, we will be tempted in the same way again. The brothers are about to experience that same temptation to give in to their anger about favoritism. We’ll see how they do in the coming days.
