Running the Race – #7

Philippians 1:25-30 – Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again. Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents-which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of Christ. These are such bold words with such amazing connotation to them. Everything we do should be done in a manner worthy of Christ. When Paul was writing this, he had already just explained that for him living or dying made no difference because ultimately it’s all about Christ. Can we say the same thing?

Now, he takes it even further to indicate that if we are living still, then everything we do while we are living should be done in a way that represents and is worthy of Jesus Christ. When we think back on yesterday, the way we acted, what we said, what we did, would that have been considered worthy of Christ? What about today? What changes can we make in our lives today so that we are allowing Christ to live through us and act in a manner that is worthy of him? What an amazing challenge that Paul puts out toward us. How will we respond today?
