Read Genesis chapter 31

VERSE:

Genesis 31:31–Jacob answered Laban, “I was afraid, because I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force.”

TRUTH:

Jacob had been told by God to leave this area and return to the land where he was from. However, even though Jacob was doing what he was supposed to be doing, how he was doing it wasn’t the best. He tells Laban that he determined how to leave based on fear. Fear can be the reason behind a number of things that we do. Yes if God tells us something then we should obey it, but how we obey is just as important as our obedience itself. Jacob had an opportunity to come to Laban and explain his relationship with God, but instead just packed his stuff and ran. As we are following the commands of God and being obedient to Him, we must be sure that HOW we are following through is just as important. How are we going to follow the Lord today?

RESPONSE:

Father, I will follow You though obedience and love. Help me to not be afraid to do what you’ve asked me to do, but to be bold and confident, knowing that You are in control. I love You and want others to know and understand that as well.
