Christian Devotional – January 19, 2018

We’ve all met people who say one thing to our faces and something different behind our back. There are very few things that frustrate me like that does. One thing that is even more dangerous, though, is the person who lies to himself. In this case the Pharisees had been lying to themselves thinking that they are better than they really are. Read through Luke 16:1-18

And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.
Luke 16:15 NASB

There really is no point lying to ourselves because God sees the truth and we aren’t fooling Him. Having integrity is important, and that includes being honest with ourselves about what we are doing and how we are doing it. The things that the world sees as most important are often toward the various bottom of God’s list. As if lying to ourselves wasn’t bad enough, doing it about an issue that God doesn’t even see as important is even worse.

What are we telling ourselves? Are we being honest with ourselves? Do we focus on the things that God sees as important, or have we switched focus to the things that are temporal? God sees our hearts. It’s He going to be pleased with yours?
