Seeing is believing. Elijah had told the widow that he was a man of God. The widow had seen the food continue to replenish each day. However, it wasn’t until this moment that she believed. Read 1 Kings 17:23-24.

Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house and gave him to his mother; and Elijah said, “See, your son is alive.” Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.”

Each one of us, no matter how religious or non-religious our upbringing, must come to a place where we encounter the living God for ourselves. We can know all the good things about God. We can believe that he is capable of doing all those amazing things. However, until it becomes personal to us, it won’t make a difference in our life.

Have we truly met and encountered the living God? Do we recognize all that God is doing for us every day? Would others around us who see what we do every day be able to make a statement like the widow did, “I know that you are a man of God and the word of God is in you”?
