Hiding. In 40 days, Elijah ran straight through from Jezreel in the north of Israel to Horeb, which is extremely south and in present day Jordan. Why? Well, God wants to know that. Read 1 Kings 19:9.

Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Throughout all that we read yesterday, and even in the midst of God helping him and strengthening him, never once did it say that God directed him to run. He ran because he was afraid and now he’s hiding because he is afraid.

God knows all things. He knew exactly why Elijah had run. Still he asked Elijah. God wants us to tell him why we do things, not so we can inform him because he already knows, but so we can be honest with ourselves. We have to confront ourselves sometimes and be willing to admit that we have sinned and God knows that only then will real repentance come.

Are we willing to honestly answer the questions that God is asking us today? Or are we avoiding God like we are avoiding dealing with our sin. He will walk through it with us, but the journey begins when we are honest with him and with ourselves.
