Double Portion – #1

Elisha, an amazing prophet of God. God used him in mighty ways and allowed him to gave a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. We’re going to spend time looking at his life. We see him first in 1 Kings 19:15-18.

The Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you have arrived, you shall anoint Hazael king over Aram; and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place. It shall come about, the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death. Yet I will leave 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

God chose him. God gave specific instructions to choose him, even before Elisha knew. God also told Elijah that Elisha would be an amazing warrior for God.

How often do we feel like God shares with others before he shares with us? God knew his plan for Elisha. God has a plan for us, and even while we are busy waiting to learn that plan, it doesn’t mean that God isn’t already at work moving the pieces forward and talking to other people about us. Never underestimate God’s ability to move through others to impact us, even before we are aware of anything.
