Roots. We think of those as the source of food and nutrition for plants. So when we think about sin in our life, the question is what feeds it and nourishes it and provides the nutrients to that sin in our life? The roots of that sin is the love of money. Read 1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Like we saw yesterday, it’s not about having the money itself. A lot of people have a lot of money and that’s not the issue or the problem in their life. Money simply magnifies the character of the individual that has it. So if someone is already greedy and mean, they will be that way regardless of whether they have a little money or a lot of money. It’s just that when they have a lot of money, they can be really greedy and mean.

Finding ourselves caught up in a love of money can ultimately result in us choosing money over Jesus Christ as the Lord and master of our life. If we’re not careful, we will find ourselves serving money instead of allowing money to be a tool that we use to glorify God. What is our attitude toward money? Do we see it as a tool to bring about the glory of God? Or is money the end all desire of our heart? Paul knows that money must simply be used as it tool in our lives.
