Running the Race – #29

Philippians 3:15-17 – Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained. Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us.

We all do better when we follow an example. Many people prefer to “see” what something is like or how to do it before they feel comfortable doing it on their own. That is part of why Jesus came and lived His life on earth. He did it so he could be a substitute for us in every way, but also so that we would have an example to follow.

Paul is mentioning this as well. As the people are trying to understand how to live and work and follow Christ, Paul says, “Follow me. Do what I do.” He was providing an example to the people of what the Christian life should look like.

Would we be able to do that or say that? Could we ask others to look at our life and to do what we do if they want to be closer to Christ? If not, we need to reevaluate how we are following God. As believers, we are to be the example to the non-believers what the Christian life is all about and we are to be examples to new believers how to grow in our Christian life. Do you need to find someone to be your example that you can follow? What example are you setting for others to follow?
