Running the Race – #30
Philippians 3:18-19 – For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.
Philippians 3:18-19 NASB
Four things that destroy. Paul is concetned about the people who are not following after Him. He describes then as enemies of Christ. As he states, their end is destruction, their god is their appetite, their glory is their shame, and finally they set their mind in earthly things. They have the wrong destination, the wrong desires, the wrong recognition, and the wrong reward.
When we are not fixed on Christ, we are going to end up in the wrong spot. Our destination is going to be destruction. Without Christ, we are focused on our lusts and desires and every little thing is going to sway that. Without Christ, the things we think are worthy and exciting are the things that we think bring us glory, however they actually bring us shame. Finally, we are only concerned about the things here on earth, thus our actual reward is only the temporary things of this life.
We must give up these desires. Christ wants to do so much more for each of us in these areas but he can only do that if we let go of the things that we have placed in these areas ourselves. What are we continuing to hold on to? These 4 areas will lead us to continuous heartbreak and disaster. Let them go!
