Psalm 56:4–In God, whose word I praise–in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
This verse asks several key points in our relationship with God. Do we praise Him? Are we praising His word and how it impacts our lives every day? Are we afraid? If we are, that speaks to a lack of trust in God and who He is. The more we trust Him in every area of our lives, the less we will be afraid. Finally, do we recognize the difference in power and authority between God and the people we are around? God is no “mere mortal” and He is able to act in power and authority to affect change at every level in our life. Do we give those “mere mortals” in our lives too much authority over us to control and dictate our lives and our actions? God is the One we are to come to, respect, and praise and let’s start today.
Father, I praise You and I trust in You. You keep me from being afraid. Help me to see You in Your role of power and authority and not attribute more power or authority to others around me than they actually have. Keep me focused on You.
