The Message – #30

“Just tell us what we want to hear.” That’s what the people told the prophets in that time. Isaiah heard it. Others heard it. And God heard it. Read Isaiah chapter 30, with a focus on verse 10.

Who say to the seers, “You must not see visions “; And to the prophets, “You must not prophesy to us what is right, Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions.
Isaiah 30:10 NASB

Isaiah was getting on to the people for wanting to have their ears tickled. They didn’t want the truth, they just wanted to hear nice and pleasant words that made them feel good and affirmed what they were already doing was right.

What do we want to hear from people who preach the word of God? Are we looking for truth? Are we looking to feel justified in what we are already doing? Do we want to understand repentance better? Or do we simply want to have a warm fuzzy feeling after a message?

Isaiah knew that these people would never gain anything because they didn’t want to confront the truth of what they were doing. We will be the same. Unless we are willing to hear the hard truths about the areas that we need to repent, we will never see God change or impact those areas. What area do we need to repent in today?
