The Message – #47

Sin begins in our minds and hearts. It matters what we tell ourselves about what we do. Read Isaiah chapter 47 and focus on verse 10.

“You felt secure in your wickedness and said, ‘No one sees me,’ Your wisdom and your knowledge, they have deluded you; For you have said in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one besides me.’
Isaiah 47:10 NASB

When we start telling ourselves that we are the only ones that matter, or that we are smarter than what we actually are, that’s when we start to run into problems. Sin begins in our hearts and in our minds. What we tell ourselves and ultimately what we believe about ourselves makes a huge difference in how we act and what we say and do to those around us. If we believe that we are smarter than we actually are or that we are more independent than we actually are, then we start to think that we don’t need God’s help. Nothing could be further from the truth.

God is so much more than anything we can be and we are only able to do things based upon what God allows us to be able to do. We are nothing outside of him. Do we recognize our need for him and do we act and speak in such a way that reflects that need? Do we share our need with others and help them to recognize their need for him, too?
