The Message – #28

There is a cornerstone. Now, how you interact with the cornerstone is determined by your actions. Read Isaiah chapter 28. Our focus is on verse 16.

Therefore thus says the Lord God , “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

As you can see, God shares that he will establish a cornerstone that will be the benchmark for all. Interestingly, we see in scripture a couple of different ways that people will interact with this cornerstone. Either they will use it as the measurement for building their life upon, or they will be tripped up by it.

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone the God was referring to. He is to be the foundation of our lives. The question becomes whether or not we are basing our lives upon him and allowing him to guide and direct and lead everything that we do, or are we stumbling over him and trying to move around him? The beginning of this chapter speaks about drunkards and those who constantly drink strong wine. Jesus Christ was a stumbling block to them and they found themselves tripping over him. Others, if they aren’t following him or seeking to obey him, also find themselves stumbling and tripping over Jesus Christ. Only those who make him the basis of the foundation that they build their life upon will be truly blessed. What is Jesus Christ to you? A stumbling block or a cornerstone?
