How are we saved? That became the big question of the time. Is the answer Christ alone, or is it Christ plus something? Read Galatians 2:14-16.

But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews? “We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Paul knew the answer, and it is Christ alone. However, he saw several of the others start to say that the answer is Christ plus circumcision. That is why he stood up and called it out. Paul wanted to make sure that they were teaching the truth. God’s message is that he came and died for all and that through Christ alone people are made right with God. This verse 16 shares the whole idea of the gospel message in this one verse.

Do we know the truth and will we stand up for truth? Paul understood the importance of the sacrifice of Christ and he wasn’t willing to allow anyone to let down the importance and meaning of that sacrifice. Will we do the same?
