Do we help those in need? Edom didn’t. The people of Edom had an entirely different way of responding to those who were in need. Read Obadiah 1:14.

“Do not stand at the fork of the road To cut down their fugitives; And do not imprison their survivors In the day of their distress.
Obadiah 1:14 NASB

Edom had been actively seeking out the people of Israel during this time and had been killing or imprisoning those who had escaped the original fight. During the time of greatest need and vulnerability, Edom sought to annihilate the Israelites, not to save them.

As we look at the people in the world around us, do we recognize the dangerous circumstances they are in? People have been hurt, cut down, beaten up, and are seeking help. How do we respond? Do we find ways to seek out the hurting and to show them God’s love, or are we cutting them down? God desired that the people of Edom would have shown compassion and mercy and demonstrated God’s grace, and He desires that of us as well.
