Read 2 Kings chapter 17

VERSE:

2 Kings 17:15–They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.”

TRUTH:

The county of Israel was taken over by the Assyrians. God goes through the chapter explaining how everything went so very wrong. This verse stands out to me as a great summary of how things went wrong. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. We will become what we follow. As we are looking through our lives, we must evaluate what we are truly following, for we will become like it. If we are following something worthless, just as the Israelites were, then we will become worthless ourselves. The only thing worthwhile is Jesus Christ and God Himself, so if we are not following Him and seeking after Him, then we are wasting our time and become less and less every day. What or who are we following?

RESPONSE:

Father, I will seek after You. I get sidetracked by so many things throughout the day. I will pray that You will continue to seek after me and teach me as I seek after You. Thank You for being the only thing in life that is worthwhile.
