Devotional – October 4, 2011

VERSE:
Romans 11:18–Do not be arrogant toward the branches, but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you.

TRUTH:
It can be easy to get our perspective turned around and be focused on all the good things we do for God. “See God, how great I am and all I do for You?” Paul reminds us here that we should never lose focus of the fact that Jesus Christ is the root, the source of all our strength and ability. Only by being connected to Him are we able to do anything. Apart from Him we can do nothing.

RESPONSE:
Lord, help me never to lose sight of how You support me. It is only because of You that I am able to do anything good. I pray today I will remain connected to You in all things, so that I do not become arrogant or misguided and think I do things on my own.
