Read John chapter 21

VERSE:

John 21:6–He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.”

TRUTH:

The disciples knew that Jesus was alive, but they didn’t really know what to do, so they went back to doing the thing they understood: fishing. However, even that wasn’t working out for them. When they didn’t catch any fish and then this person standing on the shore was able to tell them when and where to cast the net and they caught a net full of fish, they knew that person was the Lord. For us, sometimes, we feel lost and unsure of what to do next in our life as a believer. God meets us where we are and helps us to see the places and the ways that He wants to use us. Will we be open to going where God leads and doing what He says?

RESPONSE:

Father, even when I’m not sure of what is next in my life, I know that You know the best plan. Thank You for all that You have provided for me and I pray that You will continue to come and find me and lead me in the best way that You have for me.

Read John chapter 20

VERSE:

John 20:31–But these were written that you may believe that Jesus in the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

TRUTH:

The Bible was written with specific purposes. We know that God had a message to convey to the world and He used people to be able to convey that message. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the promised Messiah. Through Him, we can experience forgiveness, mercy, and eternal life. Do we believe in His name and as a result receive the gifts that Jesus brings.

RESPONSE:

Father, I know that You are the Christ the Son of the living God and I desire to seek You and know You better today. Thank You for giving us Your word so that by it I may know You better so I can show You I love You more.

Read John chapter 14

VERSE:

John 14:21–Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and show myself to them.

TRUTH:

Why do we obey God? Why do we put forth the effort to live out the Christian life? We obey because we love God. Our obedience isn’t to be done out of fear of reprisal or other such negative motivating factor. Our obedience to God is done simply because we love Him. I love God and I want to display that love to Him, so I obey Him and seek to do all that He asks me to do. I know that God is worthy of all my obedience and I give that freely to Him.

RESPONSE:

Father, I praise You for all that You have done and all that You are doing in my life. I will obey You even when I don’t completely understand simply because I love You and I want to show and demonstrate that love to You. Thank You for all that You are working in my life Be glorified in everything that I do.

Read John chapter 13

VERSE:

John 13:35–By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

TRUTH:

When people look at us and our lives, would they see us as His disciples? Would they be able to tell, based on our actions alone, that God is the sole desire of our hearts? When we allow God to be at the center of our lives and our hearts, then our actions will display His characteristics and people will be able to see and identify Him in us. Do we love others with the love of Christ so that the world can see Jesus through us?

RESPONSE:

Father, today, give me Your love for the people that I am around. Help me to know and understand how I can be a display of You to them today. Help me to share You with everyone I am around.

Read John chapter 12

VERSE:

John 12:32–“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

TRUTH:

Jesus was sharing with his disciples about the events that were to happen, but they didn’t understand what all he meant. When Jesus was lifted up on the cross, his death was certainly something that got people’s attention. But, when he was raised from the dead, these two events together was something the world had never seen or experienced before. The saving grace that the Lord demonstrated on behalf of this lost world, drew people together and drew them to God. There has been no unifying action like the death of Jesus Christ on behalf of all humanity and then being risen from the dead to the glory of God. Are we unified in Christ and do we allow Him to draw us together?

RESPONSE:

Father, please forgive me when I allow little things to distract me from You and the unity that You bring with other believers. I don’t want to get caught up in little quarrels and insignificant arguments when You are busy drawing people to Yourself. Keep me focused on You today.

Read John chapter 9

VERSE:

John 9:25–He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know, I was blind, but now I see!”

TRUTH:

This man had been healed by Jesus and now all the religious leaders were bothered by it. They wanted to find a way to question and accuse Jesus. As they were questioning this man, they began asking him a lot of theologically based questions and the man didn’t know the answer to them. He only knew what he had experienced himself. At the heart of it, this is witnessing. We are witnessing when we share with others what we have experienced Jesus doing in our own life. Satan will tempt us to be afraid and think that since we don’t have all the answers to the deep theological questions of life, then we must not be qualified to say anything. If we have experienced Jesus in our lives, then we have something to share!

RESPONSE:

Father, You have done some amazing and wonderful things in my life. Help me to share those with people and not get worried about the questions that they may ask. I know what You have done in my life and I know that You can do it in others’ lives as well. Give me the courage and boldness to go and share.

Read John chapter 7

VERSE:

John 7:18–Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

TRUTH:

Who are we speaking for? When we open our mouth and words start to come out, are they a reflection of us or are the a reflection of the one who sent us? We are to be an ambassador for Jesus Christ and we are to share His message with the world, but if we are busy sharing words that glorify only ourselves, then we will miss out on the opportunity to glorify God. As we go throughout today, let’s focus on our words being a reflection of Him.

RESPONSE:

Father, I praise You for giving Your words to us. Help me to share those words today so that I may be a reflection of You. I know that You are able to work and to move through me and I pray that I will be seeking Your glory today and not my own.

Read John chapter 3

VERSE:

John 3:30–“He must become greater; I must become less”

TRUTH:

John the Baptist’s followers have come to him to find out why everyone is now following this Jesus. John explains that he was simply there to prepare the way and now that Jesus, the Messiah, has come, it is time for everyone to follow Him, not follow John. John’s response here indicates that he understands that Jesus is great and therefore, must be seen as greater in every area. He’s not jealous, he understands that God is worthy of this and he wants people to see John less and less and instead look to Jesus. Is that our attitude. As we go through the day, do we want people to see us or do we want people to see Jesus in us? Jesus must become greater and we must become less.

RESPONSE:

Father, this is my prayer, that You will become greater and greater in my life and that I may become less and less. Thank You for all that You have done and provided so that You may be seen in and through my life. Help me to continue to point people to You so that when they look at me, they see You.

Read John chapter 2

VERSE:

John 2:17–His disciples remembered that it is written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

TRUTH:

As the disciples were following Jesus, He went to the temple one day. That wasn’t an unusual circumstance, but what He did there was. Jesus cleaned out and ran off all the people who were using the church as a means to make a profit. Jesus was passionate about the house of God and He wanted the people to be using the house of God for the purpose that it was intended, prayer and fellowship with God. How do we treat God’s house now? Is it a social club in which to gather and gossip about the week’s events? Is it a place to chastise ourselves for not following a set of rules? Why do we go to church? It should be because of our passion and desire to meet with and worship God.

RESPONSE:

Father, I want to go and meet with You. I desire to seek You and You only. Help me to share what You have done and are doing so that You may be glorified through me in everything I do, included going to church.

Read John chapter 1

VERSE:

John 1:34–“I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”

TRUTH:

John the Baptist had been speaking and telling of the coming of the Chosen One of God who would take away the sins of the world. Then, Jesus came to him and John met Jesus. After that, his testimony changed. Now he is saying, “I have seen Him. I have seen Him and I know that this is God’s Chosen One!” When we have an encounter with Jesus, it changes us. We are never the same and the world will need to hear about it. Our testimony is simply sharing what Jesus has done in our lives. Have we met Jesus? Have we allowed Him to change us? If so, we can testify just like John, “I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One!”

RESPONSE:

Father, I have seen and experienced and I know that You are my Lord and that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I have experienced Your grace and mercy and I know what it is to be loved by You. Help me to share my experience with the entire world so that You are glorified and everyone may know who You are and how You desire to impact their lives forever.
