Book Review – Because God is Love, part 1 by Fersen Perera

Love is a word that is thrown around a lot in today’s  world. We see people using love in lots of different contexts with lots of  different meanings. However, that makes it very difficult to truly understand  what the Bible means when it indicates that “God is love.” What is love? What is love  not? How are we deceived in today’s world into believing the lies that Satan  uses to convolute the love of God? All of these questions and more are discussed  in depth throughout Mr. Perera’s book as it seeks to uncover and expose the  myths and delusions about love. This book is full of scriptural references that …

Book Review – The Principle of the Path by Andy Stanley

You will always end up at the destination that is at the end of the path that you choose. That is the guiding principle of the book by Andy Stanley. He masterfully shows how people can end up at the destination that they didn’t realize they were headed toward and wonder how they got there. Yet, they had chosen to get on the path that led to that destination, even if they didn’t realize it. Andy has  a great writing style that really connects with the readers and this was a great book to read. The concepts in the book are excellent and will really work to help people take…

Book Review – The Action Bible: God’s Redemptive Story

My husband and I recently bought this Bible to use with our kids, ages 5 and 7 because of all the great pictures. I have been truly amazed by this Bible. This Bible is formatted like a comic book with all the dramatic pictures that go with it. Also, usually with a typical kids Bible, you get just a selection of some of the main stories through the Bible, but this Bible goes so much farther! There are almost all the stories through the Old and New Testament that are represented in this Bible. The stories are written well and follow the Biblical account, even at times using direct quotes.…

Book Review – NIV Study Bible, 2011 Edition

I recently bought a new study Bible, a big feat for me because I don’t typically change Bibles but about once every 10-20 years or so. I decided that I wanted a little bit of a change and purchased the NIV Study Bible. I must say, I am very impressed. I enjoy the readability of the updated translation and the extras that they have added to this study Bible are superb. They have full color on every single page of this Bible, whether it’s just a blue line that divides the scripture from the study notes, or a full color photo of the Sea of Galilee or an archaeological artifact…

Book Review – Flirting with the Forbidden by Steven James

My husband is a huge Steve James fan and he recommended that I take a look at his book “Flirting with the Forbidden.” I know that Steve James is known for Christian suspense fiction, but also writes in other genres as well, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found was a beautiful gem of a book that has wonderful insight while being entertaining.       Each chapter of this book begins with an account from a character in the Bible. Steven James gives us a fictional account that builds on the Biblical account of that person. We can get a grasp for what that person,…

Book Review – Killing Kennedy by Bill O’Reilly an Martin Dugard

When I saw that Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard had teamed up again to tell the story surrounding the Kennedy assassination, I was excited. I really enjoyed Killing Lincoln and you can read my review of that book here. I looked forward to learning more about the events surrounding another historic day in United States history. I was not disappointed. Killing Kennedy is a great read and is really insightful into the lives of these people and the circumstances that led to that fateful day in Dallas. The storyline kept moving and was a good blend of following Lee Harvey Oswald as well as the entire Kennedy family. I read…
