Psalm 64:3–They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like arrows.
Contrary to the old adage, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” words do actually hurt. Here, David likened his enemies tongues to swords. Some people truly do know how to masterfully cut someone down using just their words. Yet, God can protect us, not only from physical attacks, but God is also in charge of protecting our reputation and what others say about us as well. Do we trust Him to defend us, even from tongues and words?
Father, thank You for being my protector and defender, even against the words of others. I will trust You to make sure that You are all I need.
