Desiring service. It is noble and a fine thing to desire to serve others. Leadership is service. True leaders understand the importance of serving those that they lead. Paul understands this as well and mentions it in 1 Timothy 3:1.

It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.

Did you catch it? Ot says that it is a trustworthy statement that if someone aspires to the office of overseer, then that is a fine work. It is work. Any time any one desires to lead others or to serve in any capacity in the church, it is going to be work. Just expect it. No matter what happens in the church, it is going to be work.

Paul knows this, and he wants Timothy to understand it as well. Timothy has seen all of the things that Paul has gone through as he’s worked in service of Jesus Christ to lead the church. Timothy is seeing the work. And Paul certainly understands that it is work. Now, never doubt, it is a fine work, but is still work.

Do we understand the work involved in serving other people? Are we willing to put forth the effort to do the work to serve others? God desires to see us move forward and understand all that he is through how we serve others. Who are you serving today?
