Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 46

The trap. Read Daniel 6:11.

When I think of setting a trap, I typically think of trying to catch a troublesome rodent, or some other pest. In this case, these men felt Daniel was the pest, and they set a trap to catch him. Once the king put this law into place, the very next thing that they did was go and look and see if Daniel was doing what he always does? Was Daniel praying to God? They went as a group. This was organized and orchestrated and premeditated. They had laid the trap for Daniel, and Daniel had continued to do what he always did. Then they went and caught him.

As a follower of Christ, people are not always going to like us. People are not going to agree with our ethics or our morals. They are not going to like the integrity with which we live our lives. As a result, there can be those people who set a trap for us to try to catch us or to trip us up.

Ultimately, how people respond to us is not where our focus should be. We are to be concerned with how God responds to us. Are we following his command, not man’s command? Are we seeking after God’s approval, not man’s approval? Daniel knew it was a trap, but he walked right into it, knowing that he was going to be faithful to God. No matter what anybody else does, is that our attitude and our focus today?
