Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 41

The repercussions. Read Daniel 6:23-24.

We’ve all had that moment. That moment where someone does something vengeful, or spiteful and really hurts us and makes us angry. We want to see them destroyed. We want revenge. It can be completely natural to feel that way. However, as followers of Jesus Christ, what comes natural shouldn’t be what we focus on. We need what comes from the divine.

Daniel didn’t seek the destruction of the people who tried to destroy him. There were consequences to these men who had deceived the king. It wasn’t Daniel, who told the king to destroy them, the king made that decision on his own.

There are two key points that we need to understand from this passage. First, we are not to be the ones seeking retribution. It’s not our responsibility to make sure that the people who have hurt us get hurt. Secondly, when the king issued this decree it wasn’t just for the men who had enacted that law, it also included every single person who was associated with them. We will be held accountable based on our associations, not just our actions.

When we take a look at who we associate ourselves with at work, what does that look like? Do we associate with people who spread values that are Godly and that seek to glorify the Lord? If not, we will be held accountable because of our associations. Who do we associate with? Every action has repercussions, and these men had taken actions that they were now receiving the results for. What actions are we going to take today? And what will those repercussions be?
