Christian Devotional – July 16, 2012

VERSE:
Isaiah 24:6–Therefore, a curse devours the earth and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.

TRUTH:
Sin affects everything, not just the sinner. Looking back at Adam and Eve, we see that their sin caused God to curse the earth itself as a result. Here Isaiah explains that the curse is devouring the earth and we are responsible. One day, according to Revelation, the earth will be destroyed and the whole of creation will be burned up. Praise God, He will then remake things without the curse and the new heaven and new earth will be waiting for those who have believed in Jesus Christ.

RESPONSE:
Lord, our sin has such far-reaching effects that even the very earth is affected by our sin. Thank You for Your forgiveness and for Your promise of restoration so that we can live today in hope, knowing that one day, You will put all things right as You originally intended.
