Day 20 – Ready. As the people were doing the work they had to be ready. Read Nehemiah 4:21-23.
So we carried on the work with half of them holding spears from dawn until the stars appeared. At that time I also said to the people, “Let each man with his servant spend the night within Jerusalem so that they may be a guard for us by night and a laborer by day.” So neither I, my brothers, my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us removed our clothes, each took his weapon even to the water.

The people had to be ready no matter what came at them. There had been threats. There had been plans of violence against them. Yet, they had work to do that God had given them. They had to continue doing the work. So, they found a way to balance the need to be prepared for anything, with the importance of obeying God and doing the work. They were ready. They carried their weapons and God blessed them and the ability to get work done.
Do we get prepared and are we ready for anything that may come up? We trust God and we have faith in him to take care of the situation, but it is our responsibility to make sure that we are following up on the things that we can do. What do we need to be getting ready for today?
