Christian Devotional – July 24, 2012
VERSE: Isaiah 32:17–And the work of righteousness will be peace, and the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. TRUTH: Righteousness in our lives produces specific results. When God shares His righteousness and we are living a life that is pleasing and right before Him, we experience His peace and confidence in every situation. That is the result of righteousness in our lives. If we are not seeing God’s peace or if we don’t experience the confidence of trusting in Him, we must go back and ask ourselves if we are truly seeking His righteousness in our life for these characteristics are a result of Him in our life. RESPONSE:…

VERSE: Isaiah 31:1–Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord! TRUTH: The people were looking to political alliances to give them a sense of strength and security. They thought their security and hope came from their alliances with others and the strength and number of their armies. The Lord does not work that way. He alone is greater than any army or force that we could assemble. What do we trust in? What…

VERSE: Isaiah 30:15–For thus the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said, “In repentance and rest you will be saved, in quietness and trust is your strength.” But you were not willing. TRUTH: The Lord doesn’t keep secret the path to salvation and strength through Him. It’s listed right in this verse. Repentance and rest lead to salvation and quietness and trust are our strength. The question we should ask is not “how” we can gain these things. The question is simply “if” we will be willing to do them. In Isaiah’s time the people were not. How about us? RESPONSE: Lord, thank You for Your promise of salvation…

VERSE: Isaiah 29:20–For the ruthless will come to an end and the scorner will be finished, indeed all who are intent on doing evil will be cut off.TRUTH: Isaiah is explaining God’s judgment on the people who have been disobedient. While God will save and reward those who have placed their trust in Him, those who haven’t will meet their final judgment. God will punish evil; we can hope in this and trust in this. The Lord wants us to know that we cannot escape His judgment on our own; it will be final and absolute. What matters is whether we’ve accepted His sacrifice and substitute, Jesus Christ. RESPONSE: Lord,…

VERSE: Isaiah 28:16–Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.” TRUTH: Isaiah is speaking to people who have tried to make their own way of deliverance. Yet, the Lord tells them that their ways and plans will not remain. God has provided a way to endure and survive the coming judgment. He has placed a cornerstone, the key to the foundation, and those who will believe in it will be as immovable as the cornerstone itself. Jesus Christ is this stone. Through Him we can…

VERSE: Isaiah 27:3–I, the Lord, am it’s keeper, I water it every moment. So that no one will damage it, I guard it night and day.TRUTH: God is sharing about the new and restored earth. The Lord is the keeper and sustainer and protector of all that is His. Do we trust Him to protect and sustain us, even now? He loves and cares for us!RESPONSE: Lord, You are my keeper and my protector. You love me and desire to sustain me. I will rest in You knowing that You are my keeper.

VERSE: Isaiah 26:3–The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because his heart trusts in You. TRUTH: How do we experience peace in our daily life? We keep our minds focused on God. We are steadfast and immovable in our focus on Him. This is how we display our trust in God. As simple as this sounds, it is also extremely difficult. So many things come up that distract us from God. We must constantly make the choice to stay focused on God, to trust Him. Only then will we experience the perfect peace of God. RESPONSE: Lord, my days are so hectic. So many things come against…

VERSE: Isaiah 25:1–O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You. I will give thanks to Your name; for You have worked wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness. TRUTH: Why do we praise God? Because He is God. He is over all and worthy of all our praise. Also, He has done great and amazing things. Why, because those things are a reflection of who He is. He is faithful, therefore, He follows through on His plans from the beginning of time. Do we praise God for who He is? Do we exalt Him and thank Him because He is faithful to what He said He will…

As a Jew who had become accustomed to the Roman culture and ways, Augustus was just interested in doing a good job for his new employer, a medical man by the name of Luke. How was Augustus to know that this research into the life of the Messiah Jesus Christ and the writing of the work that would bear Luke’s name would have life-changing consequences? Doctor Luke’s Assistant by David Todd is a historical fiction book set in the first century as the early Christian church…
