VERSE: Isaiah 24:6–Therefore, a curse devours the earth and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left. TRUTH: Sin affects everything, not just the sinner. Looking back at Adam and Eve, we see that their sin caused God to curse the earth itself as a result. Here Isaiah explains that the curse is devouring the earth and we are responsible. One day, according to Revelation, the earth will be destroyed and the whole of creation will be burned up. Praise God, He will then remake things without the curse and the new heaven and new earth will…

VERSE: Isaiah 23:9–The Lord of hosts has planned it, to defile the pride of all beauty, to despise the honored of the earth. TRUTH: Isaiah was again prophesying destruction and judgment for a group of people. In Tyre, the people had become prideful and felt they should be honored above everything else, including God. Because of their pride and arrogance, the Lord was going to bring about their destruction. What are we taking pride in? Do we act like we deserve more of the glory that God Himself? The Lord alone deserves honor and glory and He will not share it with anyone else. RESPONSE: Father, I seek to direct…

VERSE: Isaiah 22:11–And you made a reservoir between the two walls for the waters of the old pool. But you did not depend on Him who made it, nor did you take into consideration Him who planned it long ago. TRUTH: Isaiah tells of an upcoming seige that will destroy Jerusalem. During this tough time of difficulty, the people did everything they could think of to try and protect themselves, except as God for help. They did not turn to their Creator but instead looked to the creation to save them. Who do we turn to when faced with difficulty? Where do we go for help and protection? We need…

VERSE: Isaiah 21:9b–“Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground.” TRUTH: Isaiah predicts the fall of the powerful nation of Babylon. Why? They trusted in something besides God. So, God will allow everything they trusted in to be destroyed. God desires that we trust in Him and He will ultimately remove any distraction or idol we create for ourselves and will show His power over it. RESPONSE: Lord, You have all power and might. I repent for placing my trust in anything besides You. Thank You for Your forgiveness and fill me with Your presence so I am not tempted to look…

VERSE: Isaiah 20:2–at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go and loose the sackcloth from your hips and take your shoes off your feet.” And he did so, going naked and barefoot. TRUTH: God used Isaiah as a visual example to the people of what we have apart from God, which is nothing. God gives us everything we have and if He takes away His blessings on us, we would be left completely bare. Do we trust in anything besides God? Do we look to anything else to help or deliver us in our times of trouble? Without God, we have absolutely nothing and…

VERSE: Isaiah 19:22–The Lord will strike Egypt, striking but healing; so they will return to the Lord, and He will respond to them and will heal them. TRUTH: Discipline is not much fun to receive. The Lord does discipline those of us whom He loves. We must recognize that His discipline is not meant to destroy us, but instead to teach us and to heal us of areas in our life where we are not trusting or obeying Him. This verse discusses the fact that the Lord was going to strike the nation of Egypt, but not to destroy them. Instead, He desires to see them return to Him and…

VERSE: Isaiah 18:3–All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers on earth as soon as a standard is raised on the mountains, you will see it, and as soon as the trumpet is blown you will hear it. TRUTH: When a nation faces judgment and destruction that the Lord has allowed, it always is a warning to the others around it. The destruction is public and visible to others. God wants others to see it and be brought to repentance and come back to Him. He hopes that others will learn from the example of those who have fallen. Do we take heed and learn from the examples we see around…

VERSE: Isaiah 17:7–In that day man will have regard for his Maker and his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel. TRUTH: Isaiah is telling of an upcoming day of destruction and judgment for a nearby nation. In that day, people will be forced to see and acknowledge the greatness and power of God. In that day, man will acknowledge all that God can do and the position that God has in the universe. Will we wait until it is too late and we are facing judgment to accept that this is who God is? Whether we believe it now or later, God is over all and one…
