Christian Devotional – December 28, 2012
My apologies for the late posting. Due to some technical difficulties, I wasn’t able to post this morning.VERSE: Leviticus 14:20–The priest shall offer up the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, and he will be clean. TRUTH: The people could not make atonement for themselves, they had to have a priest who did that for them. Thankfully, because of Jesus, we have someone who will make atonement for our sins on our behalf. Are we bringing ourselves to Him to make us clean? Or, are we still trying to cleanse ourselves? RESPONSE: Father, You have provided a way to…

VERSE: Leviticus 13:9–When the infection of leprosy is on a man, then he shall be brought to the priest. TRUTH: The people with pain and problems were to be brought to the priest and the priest was to determine what to do with the person. Only the priest could make that determination. Now, with Jesus taking the place of as High Priest, we should still bring all people to Him. Unlike the priest in Moses’s time, Jesus has the ability to cleanse and restore a person and make them clean again. No matter what a person is experiencing, they are to be brought to Jesus. RESPONSE: Father, You are the…

VERSE: Leviticus 12:8–But if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering and the other for a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean. TRUTH: Throughout the descriptions of the offerings, many times there are provisions for people who do not have the money to afford the bigger offerings. God understands our financial situation and even now, He provides a way through for us. Just like the people of Israel, we can know that a lack of money is no excuse for a lack of obedience. RESPONSE: Father, You…

VERSE: Leviticus 11:45–For I am the Lord who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God; thus you shall be holy, for I am holy. TRUTH: As God gave out instructions on what to eat, He also gave them the reason and the purpose for these instructions. All the things that are listed throughout this book are there to demonstrate the holiness of God and what we would have to follow to be holy ourselves. No one can follow this plan perfectly. God gave all these laws to show us our need for a Savior. We cannot possibly measure up on our own. We need the…

Book Review – The Guardians by Sherry Rossman
Finding a good bedtime story can be a challenge sometimes. Sherry Rossman was kind enough to share a copy of her newest children’s picture book The Guardians in exchange for an honest review. This is a story told from the perspective of the family cat, Goodwin. Now Goodwin has the ability to see guardian angels as they watch over, not only the children from his family, but lots of people where he lives. These guardians go with them throughout the day protecting and helping. This is a beautiful book with fabulous illustrations. The story is short and is perfect for a bedtime story. It is a positive and…

VERSE: Leviticus 10:10–so as to make a distinction between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean. TRUTH: Many times, the lines between that is right and what is wrong become blurred and we have difficulty seeing clearly what choices we should be making. This occurs when we stop focusing on God and the things He has commanded for us. Instead, we start to bring other priorities into our focus and we make choices based on them instead of or in addition to God. We lose sight of the things we should be doing and as a result, we end up doing wrong. RESPONSE: Father, keep…

VERSE: Leviticus 9:23–Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. TRUTH: When we are made right with God, when our sins are forgiven and we are restored, God’s glory shines through and is seen by all the people around. We become a beacon for the glory of God for others. Moses and Aaron had just finished offering the sacrifices God required to pay the penalty for their sins. At that moment, they were able to display the glory of God. That sacrifice was only a temporary sacrifice that would have to…

VERSE: Leviticus 8:34–The Lord has commanded to do as has been done this day, to make atonement on your behalf. TRUTH: Moses took Aaron and his sons and set them apart for the special purpose that God had for them. However, first God had to cleanse them. God knew what had to be done in order to cleanse Aaron and his sons. They could not do it themselves. God knows what is required to truly make a person right with Him. He commanded and they obeyed. For Aaron and His sons, this was a temporary cleansing, but for us, through Jesus Christ and His atonement on our behalf, we can…

VERSE: Leviticus 7:36–These the Lord had commanded to be given them from the sons of Israel in the day that He anointed them. It is their due forever throughout their generations. TRUTH: God appointed the sons of Levi to have a special job as priests. God gave them their job and He anointed them and made it possible for them to do their job. God has purpose for those who follow Him and He also makes it possible for us to fulfill that purpose. Are we following God and allowing Him to equip us for the purpose He has for us? RESPONSE: Father, thank You for using me and giving…

VERSE:Leviticus 6:5–or anything about which he swore falsely; he shall make restitution for it in full and add to it one-fifth more. He shall give it to the one to whom it belongs on the day he presents his guilt offering. TRUTH: Forgiveness and restoration go hand in hand. God instructs the people that they are to make restitution at the same time they bring their guilt offering. Part of restoration is to do whatever it takes to make right a wrong. When we’ve wronged others, do we try to make it right, along with asking for forgiveness? RESPONSE:Lord, when I can, I want to make right any of the…
