    Christian Devotional – December 11, 2012

VERSE: Acts 25:27–“For it seems absurd to me, in sending a prisoner, not to indicate also the charges against him.” TRUTH: Festus was the new governor in the area and he inherited a prisoner: Paul. However, Festus didn’t know or understand why Paul was in prison or why the Jews were so angry with him and demanding his death. So, Festus decided to hear Paul speak so he could get a better idea what is going on. Paul took the opportunity to share and fully explain Jesus Christ to him and all who listened in.RESPONSE: Lord, I want to take every opportunity to share and explain who You are and…

VERSE: Acts 24:16–In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men. TRUTH: How we live is a reflection of our relationship with God. It is very important that we are doing our best to be upright and blameless with everyone we deal with. We are to have integrity in all that we do. Does our life reflect our relationship with God? RESPONSE: Father, I desire to walk in integrity in all that I do. I pray You will keep me in check today as I look to reflect You in everything I say and do.

    Christian Devotional – December 9, 2012

VERSE: Acts 22:1–Paul, looking intently at the council said, “Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day.” TRUTH: Paul had submitted his life to God and he was living each day being directed by the Holy Spirit. As a result, Paul had no regrets about his Christian life. That is quite a bold statement and one that I’m not sure I’d be ready to make. Still, it is encouraging to know that no what our past includes, by placing our trust in Jesus and allowing Him to live through us each moment of each day, we can have no regrets. RESPONSE:…

VERSE: Acts 22:15–“For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard.” TRUTH: Paul is explaining to his accusers when he preaches and teaches about Jesus. He shares his testimony. In it, Paul explains that God told him to be a witness. What does that entail? Witnessing is simply sharing with others what we have seen and heard. Has God done something in your life? Bear witness to others. Simply tell them what You have seen and heard God do in your life. RESPONSE: Father, You are constantly doing great and amazing things in my life. I will witness to others telling…

VERSE: Acts 21:39–But Paul said, “I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no insignificant city; and I beg you, allow me to speak to the people.” TRUTH: Paul was the subject of a riot and was in the equivalent of police custody and protection, but his first request was to be able to address those who were trying to attack him. He had a message to share and every circumstance that happened was to be used as a means to share. Are we sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with all no matter what is going on around us? RESPONSE:Father, I get distracted by my…

VERSE: Acts 20:24–“but I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus to testify solemnly of the grace of God.” TRUTH: Paul was giving a farewell speech to some pastors and friends that he had come to know very well, but didn’t expect to see again. He makes this statement, reminding them of the single-minded focus that he had to follow the calling and ministry that he had. God has given each of us a ministry and a purpose; are we as single-minded in our commitment to that purpose?…

VERSE: Acts 19:27–“Not only is there danger that this trade of our fall into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis be regarded as worthless and that she whom all of Asia and the world worship will even be dethroned from her magnificence.” TRUTH: Demetrius was an idol maker and when he saw Paul preaching, he got worried and gathered together his fellow idol makers and started a riot. He argued that this salvation that Paul preached was bad for business and that the main attraction that brought in out-of-town visitors would become irrelevant. People are focused on income and the economy today, just like Demetrius.…

VERSE: Acts 18:3–and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they were working for by trade they were tent-makers. TRUTH: Even Paul, who often is portrayed as the great loner for God, was not really that alone. He found others who believed the same and, in this case, even held the same profession to spend time with. Do we seek out other believers to share our life with? Are we trying to go alone? Paul recognized the importance of sharing together and doing life together as we work to impact the world for Him. RESPONSE: Father, I can get caught up in going alone through things, yet…

Book Review – Another Second Chance: God’s Story by Troy Lewis

(Click picture to go to Amazon Page) As a change of pace from the kids books I’ve been reading lately, I picked up Another Second Chance: God’s Story by Troy Lewis. This incredible story of a man who underwent a kidney transplant was a truly wonderful read. Troy takes the time to set the stage and explains about his life and the rare disorder that left him in desperate need of a kidney transplant in his early 40s. The circumstances that surrounded how he ultimately received a kidney and all the lives that were touched by God’s divine planning is truly a testimony of the miraculous grace of God. This…
