Roots. We think of those as the source of food and nutrition for plants. So when we think about sin in our life, the question is what feeds it and nourishes it and provides the nutrients to that sin in our life? The roots of that sin is the love of money. Greed. This incredibly common desire is also the source of so many problems. It’s amazing, even in Paul’s time they dealt with this issue of greed and lust for riches and wealth. See 1 Timothy 6:9. Content. Do we know what contentment feels like? What do we feel leads to being content? Read 1 Timothy 6:8. Possessions. We tend to think a lot of them. We often judge our own worth and success as well as the worth and success of others by them. See what Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:5-7. and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. Treat others in a way that honors God. Paul wanted to make sure that everyone understood how to treat others, no matter their position or station. Read 1 Timothy 6:1-2. All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against. Those who have believers as their masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but must serve them all the more, because those who partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. Sin sticks. Sometimes we feel like our sins or something that can be easily brushed off and overlooked. Paul is very clear that is not the case. The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after.
