Book Review – Nan’s Journey by Elaine Littau

Nan’s Journey is the first book in a series of Historical Christian fiction novels by Elaine Littau. In this book, Nan learns what it means to forgive and to be forgiven, no matter what the circumstances or the situation. I enjoyed the story and especially appreciated the very clear message of salvation that is found in its pages. Elaine has a wonderful ability to craft a story and to weave traces of Christ’s love in and through the story. I found hope and inspiration on the journey that Nan went on and I know others will as well.To learn more about Nan’s Journey, Elaine Littau, or any of her other…

Book Review – Decision Points by George W. Bush

I picked up the book “Decision Points” by George W. Bush on the advice of someone who indicated that they had enjoyed it, but I really didn’t know what to expect. What I found was an intriguing look into the circumstances of the recent past through the eyes of the one who made many of the decisions on how we as a country would respond. Regardless of my personal views on any of the subjects he addressed, I really appreciated the honesty with which President Bush detailed his understanding of the situations and issues he faced and then laid out the reason behind why he made the decisions that he…

Book Review – From the Poet’s Hand by Ed Schetzsle

“Disappointment came by today, and brought along his friends, anger, frustration, and despair, but this is where it ends. I now have other friends, more choices of what to do. I have hopes, and dreams, and promises here to see me through.” Uplifting and inspirational, Ed Schetzsle’s poetry found in “From a Poet’s Hand: Life Lessons” is a testimony of God’s wonder and grace. The section above is taken from a longer poem that I found to be my favorite as I journeyed through his book of verse. I enjoy poetry that is uplifting and yet makes you think about your situation and circumstances on a different level or from…

Book Review – 9-11-01: A Long Road Toward Recovery by Nicole B. Simpson

As we near the ten year anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, I want to share with you a book that gives a unique perspective on the happenings of that day. Nicole B. Simpson was working in the second tower of the World Trade Buildings on that day and she highlights the struggles of a group of often overlooked victims of that day: the survivors. Nicole’s book is very personal. She shares her story of experiences on that day when the world stood still. She explains the mountains of obstacles that she has had to go through and work to overcome in order to find a sense of…

Book Review – Sleep My Child by Eyvonna Rains

I love reading books to my kids before I put them to bed. Eyvonna Rains’s beautiful book “Sleep My Child” is a joy to share with them. The verse and the rhymes throughout give the whole book a sing-song feel. I love the beautiful illustrations that are wistful and captivating, while still being relaxing and soothing as I try to get my 5 year old and 3 year old to settle down for the night. Eyvonna captures all the wishes and hopes I, as a parent, want to share with my children as they close their eyes to sleep. Thank you, Eyvonna, for sharing this beautiful treasure of a book…

Book Review – Christmas is About Jesus by Mukkove Johnson

Christmas is a time that is busy and bustling with so many activities it can be difficult to find time to focus on the real meaning of Christmas. If we do find a few minutes, it can be even more daunting to know where to begin teaching our children the life-changing truths about Jesus Christ’s birth. Mukkove Johnson recognized this challenge and authored the children’s book Christmas is About Jesus: An Advent Devotional as a tool to help meet this need. I love this book. I love the idea behind the book and the purpose for the book. I think Mukkove did an excellent job putting together a resource to…

Book Review – A Star for Anana by Carolyn Davis

Life lessons are frequently easier for children to learn when animals are involved, which is why I so enjoyed “A Star for Anana” by Carolyn Davis. Anana is a polar bear cub who is busy being taught life lessons by her mother. However, she’s not always paying attention to her mother. When Anana and another young cub get lost, she’s able to remember the lessons her mother taught her, along with receiving help from a special star, in order to find her mother again. I really enjoyed the beautifully illustrated book. Carolyn’s writing style makes it possible to see and appreciate the all that the young cub is feeling and…

Book Review – My Finny Fin Fin by Judi Chesshir

My Finny Fin Fin by Judi Chesshir is story about three dolphins who head out on their own. They have grown up and are off to see the ocean and make their own way in the world. This book talks about choices and, as a take off of the classic Three Little Pigs story, helps children to understand the importance of thinking ahead and examining their choices. Judi’s book is beautifully illustrated and the audio portion is well narrated and easy to listen to. The book is a fun take on an old story and will be enjoyed by children for years to come. Thanks, Judi, for allowing me the…
