Book Review – Wounded Heroes Book One: Kill Shot by Anne Patrick

Recently I started reading the Wounded Heroes series by Anne Patrick. The First book in the series: Kill Shot, introduces us to Kory Wagner. Kory has been back in the United States for about 8 months after her discharge from the Army. As a decorated infantry combat medic, she made a name for herself being willing to go places right in the thick of danger. Shortly after she got back, her sister was killed by an apparent drunk driver. But the more she looks into her sister’s death, the more it seems that someone here wants her dead, too. As Kory is searching for answers to her sister’s death, Sheriff…

Book Review – Through the Fire by Shawn Grady

I picked up Through the Fire by Shawn Grady from Amazon as I was looking through suspense books. I was impressed with the book and the story throughout the book. Firefighter Aidan O’Neill takes chances and risks that are starting to catch up with him. One of his reckless decisions results in the severe injury of a rookie firefighter and Aidan is placed on suspension. He takes off to Mexico and again ends up in a dangerous situation which results in his death. After being revived, now he has a difficult time with fire, and this couldn’t have come at a worse time. With a serial arsonist on the loose, Aidan can’t…

Now this serial killer has escaped and kidnapped her 7-year-old son. Book Review – And Then the Rain by Karina Harris

I love reading Karina Harris. I enjoy her first two books (See more here) and I always look forward to her articles on the Sisters in Cahoots blog. So when I purchased her newest book “And Then the Rain,” I fully expected to enjoy it. However, to say that I enjoyed it is an understatement. I loved it! In this historical fiction novel set in the 1800s, ten year old Ella Ferguson leaves her mother and father and five younger siblings to go stay with her aunt because times are hard and her family can’t provide for her. Fast forward six years and Ella finds herself in love with Alec…

Book Review – Gateway Weddings by Myra Johnson

I have enjoyed reading the books from the Romancing America series and recently I read Gateway Weddings by Myra Johnson. In this book we meet three separate individuals all set in the state of Missouri. In the first story Valerie Bishop is dealing with post-traumatic stress following the senseless killing of her husband. She meet ex-con Healy who is also learning how to make a new start. The second story is about young Sailor Kern who has an opportunity to meet the romance novelist she’s dreamed about and finds that things are not always what they appear. The final story tells of Jilly Gardner who had left her foster family…

Book Review – Ohio Brides by Cara C. Putman

Ohio Brides is another book in the Romancing America series. This book by Cara C Putman contains three Christian romance stories. In this case the stories surround three siblings and is set in the 1940s. In each case, one of the Miller children find themselves presented with a crisis that causes them to look deeper at their relationship with God. One thing I really enjoy about this book is the openly Christian themes and explanations about faith. I found the first story a bit slow and not as interesting as the other two. I had difficulty relating to the characters in the first story. By contrast, I really enjoyed the second…

Book Review – The Action Bible: God’s Redemptive Story

My husband and I recently bought this Bible to use with our kids, ages 5 and 7 because of all the great pictures. I have been truly amazed by this Bible. This Bible is formatted like a comic book with all the dramatic pictures that go with it. Also, usually with a typical kids Bible, you get just a selection of some of the main stories through the Bible, but this Bible goes so much farther! There are almost all the stories through the Old and New Testament that are represented in this Bible. The stories are written well and follow the Biblical account, even at times using direct quotes.…

Book Review – NIV Study Bible, 2011 Edition

I recently bought a new study Bible, a big feat for me because I don’t typically change Bibles but about once every 10-20 years or so. I decided that I wanted a little bit of a change and purchased the NIV Study Bible. I must say, I am very impressed. I enjoy the readability of the updated translation and the extras that they have added to this study Bible are superb. They have full color on every single page of this Bible, whether it’s just a blue line that divides the scripture from the study notes, or a full color photo of the Sea of Galilee or an archaeological artifact…

Book Review – Dangerous Deception by Anne Patrick

I have found another author to add to my favorites! I love reading Christian romantic suspense stories and I am so excited to have found Anne Patrick. In Dangerous Deception: A Short Story, journalist Gwen Jacobs just can’t forget the last dangerous assignment that ended so badly with the slaughter of an entire village. Now, a year later, she is given a chance to right those wrongs, but at what price? Philanthropist Jack Peterson is leading a group of humanitarians to a war torn country and agrees to bring along Gwen to do a story about the situation there, without realizing she may have an alternate purpose. This is an…
