Go and Do, Day 1

Just do it! Read James 1:1-8.
James may be one of the most practical books in the Bible. If you are looking for a list of “do this, don’t do this,” to help you on your Christian walk, James is the place to start. As the brother of Jesus, James was near the Lord and saw him growing up, but did not fully believe in him until after Jesus’s resurrection. James understands what the practical needs are to ensure that people are going and doing everything that they need to be.
The Christian life is about our love of Christ. But, how can we truly say we love him if our actions don’t match up? Today we see in these few verses, the importance of struggles and trials. While nobody likes them, everybody agrees that you learn from them. Some people feel like the only way they learn is through the school of hard knocks. When we think about what it takes to achieve maturity, we have to respect the fact that only through perseverance can we truly incorporate maturity into our lives.
When we have to struggle through things, we gain a greater appreciation for the strength that God can give us and exactly what we can accomplish through him. People who don’t struggle and who give up end up lacking maturity, and that becomes evident to everyone around them.
Keep struggling. Keep pushing through. Keep doing what God has told you to do, even when it’s hard, because that’s where God’s character in you shines. As the Nike slogan says, just do it!
