Christian Devotional – April 4, 2016

Read Acts chapter 5

VERSE:

Acts 5:9–Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door and, they will carry you out also.”

TRUTH:

Ananias and Sapphira had seen others who were selling land and giving it to the church. They saw them get praised and thanked by the church, so they decided that they wanted that praise as well. Unfortunately, they also wanted to keep the money a the same time, so they decided to sell the land, tell the church they were giving the whole amount, but then keep part of it for themselves. God knew the truth of their actions and motivations. The problem wasn’t that they sold their land. It wasn’t that they kept part of the money. The problem was that they lied to the church about how much the land sold for. They lied. That was the reason that they were soon found dead on the floor of the church being carried out and buried. Often, we must remember that it’s about our motivations and why we are doing what we are doing. We cannot fool God. Are our motivations to serve and glorify God or to seek gain for ourselves?

RESPONSE:

Father, Thank You for giving me the opportunity to serve You and I pray that everything I do will be done out of a motivation to see You glorified and lifted up. Thank You for all that You have done and are doing in me!
