Elijah did what he was told. Even though it had been a while, and even though it was not a positive message, Elijah still did exactly what God told him to do. He delivered the message to the king’s messengers and they returned and told the king. Read 2 Kings 1:4-6.

Now therefore thus says the Lord , ‘You shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you shall surely die.'” Then Elijah departed. When the messengers returned to him he said to them, “Why have you returned?” They said to him, “A man came up to meet us and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you and say to him, “Thus says the Lord , ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.'”‘”

It doesn’t matter whether we last received specific instruction from God 3 minutes ago or 3 years ago. Either way, we are to get up and do immediately all that God has given us to do. Elijah did the same. We don’t know how long it had been since God gave Elijah a direct message. We know awar has been fought and Ahab has died, but there could have been a number of years that had passed. Still, just as soon as God gave Elijah a message, he was obedient.

Does that describe us? Do we get up and do exactly what God has for us to do, at the exact moment that he tells us to do it? Regardless of whether the message was easy to deliver, or more difficult to deliver, we are to have the same attitude as Elijah. We are to be obedient to God and all that he has for us, right at that moment.
