What is the definition of insanity? According to the old saying, it is doing the same thing and expecting the results to change. That is exactly what happened in this story with Elijah. God just consumed a group of soldiers for being disrespectful and now, another group of soldiers arrives and does the exact same thing. Read 2 Kings 1:11-12.

So he again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he said to him, “O man of God, thus says the king, ‘Come down quickly.'” Elijah replied to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

Do we continue to repeat the same sin over and over again? We all do. Different times and in different ways, but we all have tried this. Sin is sin. God deals with sin in every one of our lives and thankfully, he forgives us for our sin when we come and confess it to him. But, the results of sin never change.

Are we doing the same thing in our lives and thinking that God will do something different? The only thing we should be doing the same is being obedient to anything and everything God tells us. That is the constant and consistent that we need to see in our lives. Otherwise, we can expect God to respond the same to sin each and every time we do it. Have we confessed our sin to Him? Have we changed our steps and actions to lineup with what is obedient to Him?
