VERSE:
2 Kings 9:3–“Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay.”
TRUTH:
Such a strange piece of instruction to give someone. I’m sure the young man who was told this, stopped and stared for a few minutes at Elisha, but then he knew Elisha’s reputation and possibly had even seen some of the miracles God had done through Elisha, so he grabbed his stuff and off He went. When we trust someone, we see how that can change our willingness to do what is asked of us. Interestingly, most of the things that God asks of us seem strange and odd. We could be looking up and God and thinking, “What in the world? Why would You have me do THAT?” Yet, it comes down to trust. Do we trust God to do what He says He’ll do? If we trust Him, we can pick up our things and head off and do what God has for us.
RESPONSE:
Father, I know that You are trustworthy. I’ve experienced such amazing and wonderful things in my life, that even when You give me seemingly strange and odd instructions, I will follow You. Keep me focused on trusting You more and more every day, for You are worthy of that trust.
