Christian Devotional – August 5, 2016

Read 1 Kings chapter 13

VERSE:

1 Kings 13:17–“I have been told by the word of the Lord, ‘You must not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way you came.'”

TRUTH:

The prophet had been given a message to give King Jeroboam and he went and delivered that message. However, the prophet had also been given instruction regarding how to deliver that message and what he could and couldn’t do while he was on his trip to deliver the message. Unfortunately, even though he could articulate what he was supposed to do, he didn’t follow through on it and do it. We can be given great messages from God and deliver amazing and powerful results from God, but if we aren’t careful to do things the way that God wants them done, then our efforts will result in destruction just like it did for this prophet. Are we doing God’s Work, God’s Way?

RESPONSE:

Father, please give me the strength to do the things that You would have me to do in the way that You want them done. I don’t always understand why things have to be the way they are or why You give the instructions that You give, but I know that You have a reason and I will obey.
