VERSE:
Genesis 3:6–When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
TRUTH:
There are so many great truths in this verse, but today, I want to focus on the fact that Eve took the fruit. She had already given a wrong answer to the serpent about God’s law concerning the tree. God only said don’t eat from it, but Eve told the serpent that they couldn’t eat from it or even touch it. So, when Eve decided to move forward with the serpent’s suggestion, she took a piece of fruit. Nothing happened. Since she thought that was forbidden and nothing happened, she had to have been emboldened to move forward and eat the fruit, too. Then, that’s when she realized the change. If we have mixed up God’s truths in our mind, then we may be expecting consequences when they don’t exist, then when they don’t happen, we assume that God isn’t going to hold us to any of His standards. We couldn’t be further from the truth. We will be accountable to God, but we will be accountable to God’s standards, not the additional false standards that we may have created in our mind. Do we truly know God’s standards for holiness? Do we live by them through Jesus Christ?
RESPONSE:
Father, keep my mind focused on Your truths, not just what I assume are Your truths. Give me the wisdom to know and understand all that You have for me and how I am to best fit into these things. Thank You for guiding me each day!
