VERSE:
James 5:10–Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
TRUTH:
James has been speaking about not rumbling and being patient. Then, James gives them a very real example of what it means to suffer. all of the readers would have been familiar with the stories about how the prophets in the Old Testament were treated. They endured harsh persecution at the hands of many people for sharing God’s Word. James reminded the people that even in the face of the persecution, the prophets were patient and continued to share the message they were given. When we face difficulties and hard times while we are doing the work that God has us doing, will we be patient and endure? We must look at the example that has been set before us and know that we can make it.
RESPONSE
Father, I know that like most people, I don’t enjoy going through difficulties. However, I desire to be through all that You wan me to be. Help me to be patient and to endure while still doing all that You would have me do. I will continue to speak in the name of the Lord, no matter what.
