Read James chapter 5

VERSE:

James 5:12–Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear–not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.

TRUTH:

Do we mean what we say? At the very essence of this verse, that is what it is asking us. Are we people of integrity who mean what we say? If we are, then we won’t need to swear to make people believe us and we won’t need to do anything else in order for people to believe us. The very fact that we said it and that we always do and mean what we say, will speak for us. The problem is when people don’t mean what they say or often change what they say and then they have to start swearing to get people to believe them. This lack of integrity is what is being condemned. Be a person of integrity who means what you say today.

RESPONSE:

Father, I will live up to the promises that I make and the words that I say today. I desire to be a person of integrity who will live out what I say I will. Keep me focused on You so that as I speak, I am only speaking the words that You would have me to speak, so then my words and my actions both will line up with You.
