Running. That’s the background for today’s Psalm, chapter 3. David was running from his own son who was trying to incite a coup and take over the throne. David, the great king, humbled and on the run, writes these words.

But You, O Lord , are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.
Psalms 3:3 NASB

Thankfully, my children have never tried to kill me, but I have certainly been in situations where others didn’t like me much and were making all kinds of untrue accusations. Here, we see that David didn’t have to protect himself, God was his shield. David couldn’t rely on his own power and glory to get him out of the situation, he had to wait on God’s. He couldn’t even lift up his own head, in other words there’s absolutely nothing that he could do on his own. He needed God to help him to do anything that he was doing. When we are being attacked, God does a much better job protecting us and standing up for us than we can do on our own. Will we trust Him and rely on Him in each of those situations.
