Day 33 – What’s next? God gave Nehemiah the next project. Read Nehemiah 7:1-5.

Now when the wall was rebuilt and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed, then I put Hanani my brother, and Hananiah the commander of the fortress, in charge of Jerusalem, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many. Then I said to them, “Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot, and while they are standing guard, let them shut and bolt the doors. Also appoint guards from the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each at his post, and each in front of his own house.” Now the city was large and spacious, but the people in it were few and the houses were not built. Then my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogies. Then I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up first in which I found the following record:
Nehemiah 7:1‭-‬5 NASB

Nehemiah accomplished exactly what God had for him. Now, Nehemiah delegated out to other leaders areas in which they were to be responsible so that the work could continue and be maintained. Nehemiah’s focus in this area was over. But, that didn’t mean that God was done with him. God had the next plan already lined up and waiting for him. I love verse 5 where it shows God telling Nehemiah what the next project is.

We should never assume that God just has one project for us to do and that once we’ve done it, we’re done. God is always waiting and ready with the very next area in which we can show obedience and where we can demonstrate the amazingness of God. Are we looking for the next thing that God has for us? Are we too busy basking in God’s glory for what he has done in the past that we fail to miss what he has for us to do today?
