After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, official of half the district of Beth-zur, made repairs as far as a point opposite the tombs of David, and as far as the artificial pool and the house of the mighty men. After him the Levites carried out repairs under Rehum the son of Bani. Next to him Hashabiah, the official of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district. So many names and places that are listed here. What an amazing record of obedience to God! As we read through this list, it can be easy to get lost in all the names of people and places, but what is overwhelmingly present throughout is the obedience of these people. God remembers and records their obedience. God knew and understood what it took to follow Him, even in the midst of the opposition.

As we read through these names, do we see the obedience listed here? Do we understand all that these people went through to be able to do all that they did? These people built doors and walls and made repairs. Do we recognize their obedience and would the same be said of us?
