Christian Devotional – January 15, 2013

VERSE:
John 5:6–When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

TRUTH:
This seems an odd question to ask. Wouldn’t a person who had been sick a long time want to be well? Why does Jesus bother to ask? Sometimes when we are in our sin and doing things we know are wrong, we know what we should be doing, but we’re not ready to give up our sins yet. Jesus wants to make sure we’re ready to come to Him and trust Him, He’s not going to force us to come to Him. When we are stuck in our sin, do we really want to get well?

RESPONSE:
Father, it’s easy to just answer that question “yes,” but I want You to examine my life and see if there are any sins I’ve been hanging on to that I haven’t wanted to let go of. I surrender those to You today. I want to be made well!
