Day 15 – Opposition. So far, the people have been busy doing what God has for them to do. However, now there is opposition. Read Nehemiah 4:1-3.

Now it came about that when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became furious and very angry and mocked the Jews. He spoke in the presence of his brothers and the wealthy men of Samaria and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Are they going to restore it for themselves? Can they offer sacrifices? Can they finish in a day? Can they revive the stones from the dusty rubble even the burned ones?” Now Tobiah the Ammonite was near him and he said, “Even what they are building-if a fox should jump on it, he would break their stone wall down!”

Any time people are busy doing what God has told them to do, there will be opposition. It may come from all different types of places, but the fact is that it will come. Count on it. Nehemiah was no different.

As we take a look at the people who are against what God is doing, it is amazing to see how they are scoffing and making fun of the people of Israel. They laugh at them and make fun of them. They begin to do everything they can think of to demoralize them.

Are we experiencing opposition? If not, we have to ask ourselves if we are doing what God has for us to do? If we are, we can expect it to be difficult and painful and hard. The obedience is ultimately all that matters, but that doesn’t make the difficulties in the moment feel any less painful. We have to stay focused on the obedience to God. Opposition will come. Stay focused today.
