Take Action, Day 21
Assumptions. Read Acts chapter 21.
Paul has returned to Jerusalem. When he arrived the believers there were excited to hear his stories. They shared with him what had been going on in the city as well,. What we learn is that several of the Jewish Christians thought that Paul was not following all of the Jewish laws anymore. This was concerning to them. So when Paul started going around the city and in the Temple, those people started making up assumptions and sharing them with others.
Assumptions can be disastrous to ministry. We can go into situations with the very best of intentions and through a multitude of circumstances, end up with other people making assumptions about what we’re doing, and why. At times, those assumptions can completely derail a ministry. We must be so careful to communicate what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. Even in the best of circumstances, misunderstandings are still possible. We must guard against making assumptions about why other people do things. It’s best to always just assume positive intent and leave that situation up to the Lord to address.
How do we need to refocus ourselves today? What else do we need to communicate to help other people avoid any misunderstandings of our intentions? What assumptions do we need to throw away so that we can assume positive intent and support God’s ministry everywhere?
